NASA Climate Study Announced
By Bill Jones. The Oklahoma City newspaper (12/15/2016) had a full one page announcement regarding a NASA grant for Oklahoma University to study Carbon Gases. Climate change was not mentioned in the announcement.
The grant is for a study of “Earth’s natural exchanges of carbon between the land, atmosphere and ocean.” This is a five year study awarded to Oklahoma University. It is a 166 million dollar grant by NASA to be headed by Oklahoma University. The study would center on a communications satellite that would make observations over the Americas. The News Article implies that OU would receive 166 million dollars for this study. It is likely that most of the funds will be used for the satellite, and the required instrumentation. Oklahoma University would be receiving a smaller amount for a study of the results of the satellite data. There are also a number of other groups involved in this study. These groups would require funding.
Oklahoma University would lead a team of OU scientists with inputs from researchers from around the world. It is stated that the study is to “monitor plant health, and vegetation stress throughout the Americas, and to examine the natural sources, and processes that control carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and methane in the atmosphere”. It has been noted that vegetation stress and health is mainly controlled by rain fall. Many that are in the farm business are aware of this.
While Climate Change is not mentioned in the article the study is directly related to Climate Change. It is odd that neither “Climate Change nor Global warming” was mentioned.
This study is being centered at Oklahoma University which has a great background for such research, and it would be of worldwide importance. The results would normally shine a bright light on the question that has had a leading political indictment - that Climate Change is caused by certain carbon gases, and methane gases. This tacit political conclusion has been made because of several smaller studies that implied that these gases were to a great extent responsible for Global Warming, i.e., Climate Change. These smaller studies came under close scrutiny, and charges were made that the results had been altered by someone involved in the studies. Global Warming was then changed to Climate Change. There has been a political desire is to place a Tax on carbon emissions. There are no scientific studies acceptable that indicate the necessity for such a Carbon Tax.
The NASA/Oklahoma University study would then likely remove the political assumption that has been made without a proper scientific study. The study would then, likely provide scientific proof that Carbon was a serious problem, and that a Tax on Carbon emissions would be appropriate. It is a certainty that the EPA would not object to such a Tax. It is my assumption that the study is for political reasons. The study is headed by those who may very well have a bias toward the charge that Carbon Gases are causing Climate Change. A Carbon Tax would then be necessary since the study would likely show scientific evidence that these gases were responsible for Climate Change and/or vegetation stress. If the study did reach such a conclusion it would give politicians a powerful argument for a Carbon Tax.
It is quite pleasing to note that such an important study is to be headed by an outstanding university that would have a worldwide influence. Pleasing, because this study is similar to the type of research suggested by my original blog article on Global Warming. It is a similar study, with serious differences.
There are problems with the study. First, a biased group such as NASA should not be awarding such a study. Secondly, The Director may very well share the NASA bias. Thirdly, worldwide inputs should not be permitted. NASA has a mission to be a Space Agency not a World Study Agency.
While this type of study is important, it is being awarded by an organization that is known to be biased regarding the carbon gases causing Climate Change. The study is being directed by a Professor that is known worldwide. He has many important papers on various subjects relating to the carbon cycle and other subjects. He has had a close connection to NASA.
In any case NASA should not be heading such a study because it is has such bias. It is awarding an important study to an organization that is headed by what could appear to be a biased director. NASA should be in Space Research, and not in worldly studies such as the study of carbon gases - or Climate change.
Climate change is caused by the power from the Sun. Then the Sun will heat up Carbon Gases. The Suns power also heats up Water Vapor. Water Vapor comprises slightly more than 96 percent of the gases that are suggested to cause Climate change. The carbon gases total up to the slightly less than 4 percent of these gases. There are many factors involved in Climate Change that should be studied – not just water vapor or carbon gases. The source of the heat is the Sun - it is the most important, and uncontrollable factor involved. The Sun does heat up the Water Vapor, and this, of course must be included in such a proposed study, but there are many other factors to be included in such a study.
These factors are suggested in my blog article. The area of land on Earth is relatively small compared to the area of water. The water receives most of our Suns energy. It is difficult to explain why so much attention should be shown to the carbon cycle when it is obviously one of the least important heat sources involved in Climate Change. The earth is covered with about seventy percent water. Most of the energy from the sun is stored in the ocean waters. NASA (A Space Agency) wants to study four percent of the green-house gases. Where does NASA get the money? One good answer is from politicians that are anxious for a Carbon Tax.
For those who have not read my blog article – the article may be summed up in one simplified statement. That is - “We will always have Climate Change, but it is not caused by Carbon nor mankind – it is caused by the Sun.”. Global Warming is followed by Global Cooling, and it has been going on for over a million years. While a Carbon Tax would be great for politicians it would a sad day for science, and truth.
